The visual design of Web 2.0

If you didn’t blink, you may have noticed that for a few days recently Wikipedia’s entry for Web 2.0 included a subsection describing the visual elements of Web 2.0. Gradients, colorful icons, reflections, dropshadows, and large text all got a mention.

A few days later the “visual elements” addition had been removed after a vote by wikipedians. The objection, I suppose, is that no set of visual criteria can accurately define something as being characteristic of Web 2.0 - if Web 2.0 can be understood as an approach to generating and distributing content, then it needn’t be tied to a particular visual style.

Nevertheless, it’s true that many Web 2.0 sites do share a distinctive aesthetic. Wikipedia’s editors may not think it’s a worthy part of the Web 2.0 discussion, but I say bring it on!

How to be thankful

Look around and pay attention to the people around you. You will find that everybody has something to worry or complain about, not just you. It's easy to focus on those who seem to have it all, but you never know what's going on inside. They might look happy, but they might be miserable as well. Don't look at others and think "I should have it like they do." Look at those who aren't as fortunate as you are and count your blessings.

Practice acceptance. Stop dwelling on how things should be, what could've been, and what you don't have. Recognize what you do have--whether you like it or not, it's yours to keep or to change. Accepting your lot in life is not about resigning yourself to unhappiness. It's about not wasting time lamenting or denying your problems. Take them for what they are and...

Become a problem solver. Use your lemons to make lemonade. Get in the habit of asking yourself how you can turn the negative into a positive. The most successful people in life, and those who have the most to be grateful for, are also those who've endured tremendous trials and managed to persevere and turn it all around.

Learn to see hardship as a chance to develop character. Imagine yourself looking back ten years from now and recounting your difficult circumstances, and being proud of how you handled it and worked through it.

Focus on what you can control. Stop concentrating on your situation, and on conditions and incidents that happened to you and that you have no control over. Instead, shift your focus on what you can control: your response, and your behavior.

Take joy in the small things. Blow bubbles with your kids. Play with a puppy. Get lost in the park. Goof off and have a good laugh. Life's treasures are the small pleasures. Give thanks for each small gift you receive!

Stay creative, like THIS woman

Another A.Shaughnessy

Edited by award winning art director, writer and design consultant Adrian Shaughnessy, Varoom 02 explores international trends in illustration taking a critical look at the new and radical manifestations of image making which are further stretching the boundaries of an art form rooted in tradition and the history of drawing. Set against the hostile climate of current political propaganda, London based Iranian graphic designer Nima Falatoori explores the cultural and visual heritage that influences the vibrant scene of contemporary illustration in his country. The latest developments in Japan are investigated in interviews with four Japanese illustrators whose highly influential works are revealed in ‘Mapping the Terrain’.

Gaston

A 3D model-graphic, error included, produced with Gaston 3D,
dated 09-06-2005.

There comes a time when a men has to sit down and clean up his desktop and mailbox. Suffering it's called in the e-mind of a heavy computer-user. But I'm brave and so I began, I notified some old friend.. it was actually fun you know. You should "get up and get out, start doing it yourself", your desktop looks like a mess.

Anyway here's something I stumbled upon I'd long forgotten, there was a day when I was totally into 3D design, not those asshole CAD-CAM programs no, just rigid parameter itteration-minded freeware programs written by a hermit growing a beard getting fat. But hey that's perfectly ok you know. I guess I'll wind up being one of them one day too... But enough dissing these brave gentlemen who conquer the world designing the greatest virtual architecture ever made.

It was at the advent of the year 2005 that I downloaded Gaston 3D, it was this thing called portraitware = you have to send the developper a portrait picture of yourself and then he/she sends you a copy of the program finely crafted by hand. I did, I send Leo Fink my picture and received a free copy of his baby called Gaston.

AdVerbatims: I need it 4 yesterday

Check out my contribution of AdVerbatims. Advertisers are sometimes dul and very stubborn, professionals at advertising agencies sometimes get frustrated working for them. I recently deleted some "wildly-out-of-order-after-a-frustrating-hard-working-day-at-the-agency" posts. The guys at AdVerbatims gather them and channel them into short sentences for the world to read.

My contributions are #227 #226 #225 #224, sometimes it's not about making your point.
But still, and for the record, I love working here » at SNOW.
Big love to my co-workers Valley and Elky.

And a special thanks to Carlito & Johnny for granting me the chance of learning here.
