Over and over and over and over and over ...

Chapel oak

The most famous tree of France is the Chapel-Oak of Allouville-Bellefosse, a small village not far from Rouen in Normandy. In fact it is more than a tree: it is a religious monument and an object of pilgrimage. The oak itself is one of the biggest and oldest trees of France, and in it are build two small chapels above each other. Together with the large wooden staircase leading up to the chapels the whole is one of the most curious Roman Catholique sanctuaries all over Europe. About the history is known a lot: in 1669 the priest of Allouville , Abbot Du Détroit and father Du Cerceau decided to build a chapel in the already big and hollow oak, with a small altar with an image of the Virgin Mary. The chapel was dedicated to " Our Lady of Peace ". Later on a second chapel was arranged above the first and an entrance - staircase build. In it a hermit seems to have lived for some time.

Lovebytes festival

Matt Pyke and Karten Schmidt created an awesome stunning series as an identity for Lovebytes.
The underlying theme of this year's festival is 'process'.
The concept of 'simple, warm, soft technology' resulted in a population of unique friendly furry faces which would appear across all festival literature.

This generative approach challenges the role of the designer, who designs the 'seed' which spawns these designs automatically within parameters such as hair colour, hair length, head shape, eye shape and name.

Concept and art direction by Matt Pyke, amazing processing programming by Karten Schmidt, creating an automated, generative process to create 20,000 unique designs. Each piece you see is one of a kind.

INTERNET EXPLORER FOR MAC NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

In June 2003, the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit announced that Internet Explorer for Mac would undergo no further development, and support would chttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifease in 2005. In accordance with published support lifecycle policies, Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and is not providing any further security or performance updates.

Accordingly, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac is no longer available for download from Microsoft. It is recommended that Macintosh users migrate to more recent web browsing technologies such as Apple's Safari.

Though i was a heavy Safari fan, since I experience a lot of bugs in Safari, I switched to Firefox months ago. Firefox is without any doubt the most up-to-date and accesible browser on this planet.

Axe does it again, at Bomchickawahwah hot hot hot ;)

Dr. Woohoo

Standing in front of an imaginary audio/video patch-bay, Dr. Woohoo uses algorithms for color and sound analysis, and rewires the audio characteristics to the visual characteristics to create the visuals for this piece. The music is from the incredible Squeak E. Clean, whose music you might remember from the 'Adidas Intelligent' commercial directed by Spike Jonze, with Karen O. from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on vocals.

ISO:50 / Tycho in San Diego, CA

Tycho is the audio and visual project of San Francisco based artist, designer and producer Scott Hansen aka ISO50. As Tycho he's a master of swirling, sun-drenched melodies and as the much-lauded graphic designer, ISO50, he's equally stunning and mines a similar aesthetic that sends him around the globe to speak at top design conferences including SXSW and OFFF Barcelona among others. Tycho has just released new material for Ghostly International (Mathew Dear / Solvent) after having recently released 'Past is Prologue' on Merck Records. Hansen will be performing and displaying visual projections and artwork from his ISO50 guise, as well as his live set as Tycho.'

Connecting the Dots

Viz_bl

Came across a blog recently titled Everything is Design.' What I liked about it right off the bat was that it consolidated some fantastic links related to design/user experience etc.' This is value.' Valuable to me because it's all in one place and saves me time and effort.
I'll eventually be adding many of these to my blogroll.' And I think this supports the theory of 'community clusters' which I use in my visual above.' Blogs are connectors—they have the ability to connect communities of both similar and different interests.' Sometimes the communities are closely linked as is the case here—and sometimes the communities are vastly diverse in content and perspective.' Back to 'community clusters' imagine if we erased the lines in this visual which connect them?' How boring would that be?

2years of Gmail

On june 12, 2005 I first started using Gmail, and guess what: my gmail-homemail counter is on 2500 today, that is without the additional 17365 junkmails. Besides my homemail I have a company-mail, an art-mail, an msn-mail, a work-mail, a blogmail and a design-mail. That counts for communication doesn't it :)

Then Tsevis used custom scripts in Synthetik Studio Artist to make the mosaic. Tsevis created 4 different portraits, with 128 x 128, 64 x 64, 32 x 32 and 16 x 16 pixels size. Then Tsevis used Adobe Photoshop CS3 to make the final composition.

Type-freaks

Old mails rule!

Lander,

In its multiple master form, it is continuously adjustable for weight and width).

zo, ik hoop dat je hier wat aan hebt.

Nog veel succes en plezier met het vele werk!
tot maandag

Bieke.

Matthew Hurst - Blogosphere

Map: Welcome to the Blogosphere
Charting the network of jocks, gadget hounds, political junkies, and porn aficionados
by Stephen Ornes

The blogosphere is the most explosive social network you’ll never see. Recent studies suggest that nearly 60 million blogs exist online, and about 175,000 more crop up daily (that’s about 2 every second). Even though the vast majority of blogs are either abandoned or isolated, many bloggers like to link to other Web sites. These links allow analysts to track trends in blogs and identify the most popular topics of data exchange. Social media expert Matthew Hurst recently collected link data for six weeks and produced this plot of the most active and interconnected parts of the blogosphere.

Courtesy of Matthew Hurst

1 MR. POPULARITY
On the map, white dots represent individual blogs, sized according to number of links. Nearly 500,000 people visit the DailyKos every day, making it one of the world’s most popular blogs. A link from DailyKos is a guaranteed way of attracting Web traffic (and therefore advertising revenue), and as a result DailyKos has a strict link policy. Green links represent one-way links (that is, blog A links to blog B), and blue links indicate reciprocal links (blog B returns the favor).

2 THE GOSSIP OF GADGET HOUNDS
The bright spot here represents the popular site Boingboing, a “Directory of Wonderful Things” that links to oddly compelling online news from the fringes of the real world but mostly offers gossip about gadgets and all things high-tech.

3 SHOW ME YOUR FRIENDS
This isolated, close-knit online community of bloggers uses LiveJournal, an online host that primarily serves as a social networking site. This blogging island is just barely in touch with the rest of the blogworld.

4 I’LL SHOW YOU MINE. . .
This blue blob represents a balanced sociopolitical discourse. The prevalence of blue in this area shows that most of these links are reciprocal, suggesting a sort of metadialogue between bloggers who hurl headlines at one another. The brightest light belongs to syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin.

5 NAH, JUST SHOW ME YOURS
No discussion of the blogosphere would be complete without a nod to online smut. This outlying island of blue represents the linked-up world of bloggers who traffic in the latest news and gossip from the world of pornography. Oh, yeah, and pictures.

6 LONELY JOCKS
Also on the outskirts is this group of sports enthusiasts, many of whom, unlike the lonely pornographers, have links back to the central hot spot of the blogosphere. “What you find often on the blogosphere is people on the outside pointing in to the middle,” Hurst says. “They’re on the outside looking in.”
