Tatler legs crossed

Have you seen a truly awful piece of Photoshop work? Clumsy manipulation, senseless comping, lazy cloning and thoughtless retouching are our bread and butter. And yes, deep down, we love Photoshop.

The Collaborative

“The Collaborative” is a newly born project that thrives on the collaborations between artists and creative companies, whether visual or graphical. Basically it’s a concept of “works that are created by people together”, collaboratively rather than individually.

The first Collaboration is a result of a conceptual idea developed by model and stylist Michelle Warneke, produced by photographer Mike Van Cleven and completed by 12 different visual and graphical artists. The result is a collection of 12 creative images of models, of which each image was passed on to another creative artist who considered the image as his/her blank canvas. In collaboration with Ou-Vert & Print International the works have been bundled in “The Collaborative 09 Calendar”.

Mike invited me to join The Collaborative for their first project. A joyfull assignment: "I'll send you the RAW image of one of the 12 modells I've shot in a series for my promotional calendar which I send out every year. All you got to do is cover up the naked model with some artwork — so she's not totally nude anymore..."

In just a little bit more time and the 09 Calendar will be printed and ready to send out. If you’d like to get your hands on one, feel free to drop Mike an e-mail at thecollaborative@mikevancleven.com

Mike is giving out a couple of these calendars to whom send us an e-mail with “TheCollaborative.be” in the subject line.

Don’t forget to mention your complete address and why you want to be the proud owner of one of these babies!

Oh and before I forget: Merry X-mass to you all !

Nikon D90

Nikon recently announced a new camera to hit the streets later this fall, the Nikon D90 digital SLR (a professional style camera with interchangable lenses). For the $1000 price tag you get about what you’d expect: 12 Megapixels, 4.5 pictures per second in burst mode, and good low light performance.

What puts this SLR in a league of its own is the ability to shoot HD video. No other SLR offers this feature. There are some limitations. There’s a five minute footage limit and manual focusing only. The amazing thing is that you can shoot video footage using standard Nikon lenses. Macro shots and great depth of field can now be shot on the cheap.

To give some perspective, another video camera with interchangeable lenses would easily set you back ten times as much. To make things worse, you’d spend $5,000-$10,000 per lens. Our hat is off to Nikon for bringing this kind of control over video to the masses.

Marcus Ericksson is Subdisc. And holds up a very strong photography portfolio at subdisc.com. An enthousiastic collegue of mine pointed out that I was well disguised in one of his shooted models. But unfortunatly I am NOT Ace Ventura's alter ego.

Moodstream by Getty Images

What is Moodstream? It’s a concepting tool. The modern version of the fireplace. An interactive art piece. TV for the future. It’s a website we created for and with Getty Images to showcase all of their offerings – still, video and sound – and inspire interactive creatives. And it’s really, really fun to use.

Oh, AND, it’s in .NET. I mean, come on.

Eye Playstation

Marc Paeps is since recently one of my favorite belgian photographers, the atmosphere and colorpower that almost always sprouts out of the image is amazing.
With the Eye of Playstation (TBWA/Belgium) I had a sudden frenzy because I saw it on Christophe Huet's portfolio without ever hearing his name mentioned in the credits, while actually it's guys like Christophe that make hard work of photography to crisp it all to the max, and marc taking all credit on the CCB. But the very modest Christophe replies quietly that:
"I think you didn't see my name for the retouching.
I've never been credited on any ads, therefore on any awards.
I'm happy to work with nice photographers and they respect me and my job, as I respect them. That's the most important thing to me.
I'm paid for what I do. I don't expect anything with awards, even if I know it can help (photographers and agencies of course)"

Honesty modesty, haaah, it still exists. Btw Christophe has a wonderfull soundtrack on his website and if I don't remember wrong ... he wrote it himself
